The Experience: If you are looking for a old-fashioned restaurant that is fun for the whole family, this is your best bet. The decor is hilarious, featuring a jukebox, old advertising signs, and other humorous pictures and signs. The cozy Southern atmosphere also makes it a great place to bring guests visiting from out of state. The food is delicious, especially the catfish for which the restaurant is named. We like the blackened catfish the most, but the fried catfish, shrimp, chicken, and everything else we have had there is great, if not exactly low-calorie. The sides are also good, especially the hush puppies, which are brought to your table free as an appetizer with regular and jalapeno tartar sauces. Be sure to order root beer, which comes in an icy glass mug. The children's menu features shrimp, catfish, chicken, or chicken fried steak, and kids under three get one piece of their choice free. On the last occasion we went, the server actually brought a large plate of complimentary shrimp and fries for our two-year-old. The other thing that makes it a special place for children is the prize they are allowed to choose while you are paying at the cash register. They seem to really welcome families at the Catfish Parlour and to go out of their way to accommodate them.
