The Experience: For a small pool, West Enfield is very popular. It appears to be a favorite gathering spot for neighborhood parents and their kids. This was the best pool we had seen for adults to sit around the edge and watch their children without actually having to get in, and we saw many parents sitting on the edge of the pool or on benches and doing just that. The amazing shade from the trees surrounding the pool kept the parents cool. Almost half of the pool itself was in shade, and most of the area around the pool was in shade as well. There is a nice wooden patio area on one side for sunbathing, and lots of benches around the pool (another thing in short supply at other pools). The pool depth ranges from 2 feet at the shallow end to 7 feet at the deep end. There is no wading pool. The bottom felt old and uneven, and when I saw in the Parks and Recreation Department History that the pool has apparently been open at least since 1933, I realized why. There are no changing rooms, but the restroom has stalls large enough to change in. Due to the small size, there is only one lifeguard on duty at a time.
