Peter Pan Mini-Golf

Location: South,
In/Outdoor: Outdoor
Activity level: Moderate

Features: Peter Pan has two different courses of mini-golf, one slightly more challenging than the other, both very fun. There are large fiberglass and concrete statues on most holes, including Peter Pan, of course. Snowcones are served in the concession area.

Cost for a family of four: $20 ($5 per person for 18 holes)

Best for ages: 3 and up

The Experience: Peter Pan has an authentic Austin feel, having been in business for over 50 years. The courses are fun and the characters are very cute. The kids will love the statues such as a white rabbit, a pirate, and a big red dog. We especially like the 20-foot T-Rex!There are a lot of fun uphill courses, little bridges and tunnels, and you get to hit a ball into a whale's mouth. Be forewarned that there is not a lot of shade on the course, so by the 18th hold, you will be drenched in sweat on a typical Austin day.
Before you go: Bring lots of water and sunscreen. Bring a camera for all the great photo ops. Try to avoid Friday and Saturday nights, when you may have to wait for clubs. I have also read reviews recently that say that the college and young adult crowd takes over the course after dark, so you might want to wrap your visit up by 9:00 or so.

How to go cheaper: If you want to play 36 holes, prepay for them for $7 per person. Also, there are sometimes 2 for 1 coupons in the Austin Chronicle, with which two people can play 18 holes of golf for the price of one.

Birthday Parties: Peter Pan offers great prices for birthday parties! The parties are designed for 8 or more children, with a cost of $4 per person. The price includes a picnic table and one round of golf for the kids. The parties are usually an hour and a half long, 45 minutes for the party and 45 minutes for the golf. You provide your own cake and any other drinks or snacks as desired. In a very cool touch, your child's name will be written on the marquee out front.

Accessibility: The steps leading up to Peter Pan are very steep and rather shallow.

The Lowdown: A very fun way to spend an afternoon while ogling at the giant statues.
