The Experience: We had been through the drive-through at Krispy Kreme before (guess that explains my thighs), but we had never been inside until now, and we were amazed at the huge glass window in the dining area. Through it, you can watch the entire doughnut-making process, like a mini-factory tour. A huge, amazing piece of machinery lets the dough rise, then plops it in the hot oil, flips it over after it's brown on one side, puts it on a conveyor belt, then it goes right under this huge fountain of glaze and comes out glazed on the other side. It continues around the belt to the packing ladies. When we entered, the girl behind the counter offered us free samples, which were doughnuts hot off the conveyor belt, fresh from their glaze showering. After that, we purchased some more, with lattes for us and chocolate milk for the kids. The doughnut flavors there include original glazed, sugar, glazed chocolate cake, chocolate iced cream-filled, and many others. Although the doughnuts were delicious, they took second place to the fascination of watching the giant doughnut machine for us. We assume there are times the machine is not running – you may want to look to see if the “hot doughnut” light is on in the window.
