The Experience: Garrison Pool is quite popular, despite the admission fee, which neighborhood pools do not charge. It could be because of the large size, the accommodating hours of operation, or the attraction of the diving board. The diving board is located in the 10-feet deep end of the pool, with a guard carefully monitoring to make sure that safety rules are obeyed. The area for recreational swimming is roped off from the diving area and lap areas, but is the largest area of the pool. The height ranges from 3 feet to 5 feet deep. There were not many lap swimmers, but there were many families with children. Only a few children were brave enough to dive off the diving board, perhaps because goggles are not allowed to be worn while diving. This pool is very well-guarded; in addition to the guards seated all around the pools, there is one walking life guard who monitors the recreational swim area more closely. The wading pool is larger than others we have seen, and varies in depth slightly. There was room for at least 20 people in the wading pool. There is a changing room and vending machines located near the pool.
