The Experience: Shade. Abundant shade. If you prize shade like we do, especially if you love large groves of close-standing trees, this is the park for you. You can stand in the middle of the trees and feel like you're miles from the city. Even the playscape is shaded. Speaking of the playground, it actually has a theme in keeping with the park's name. The very long playscape has a fort-like appearance, and there is a cannon for the kids to climb on as well. Besides the huge playscape, there is a smaller playscape for the younger kids, four regular swings, and two baby swings. There are convenient benches and picnic tables in the playground area. Restrooms and the basketball court are nearby. The park seems to get steady usage, but does not get overly crowded. Most of the park space is reserved for the wooded area. There are several picnic tables spaced out within the trees. The best part of the park for us is definitely the feeling of being in the middle of a forgotten forest.
Before you go: Put on sunscreen, and bring some water. Consider swimming in the pool (reviewed separately).

How to go cheaper: Not possible.

Birthday Parties: Do it yourself. There is no pavilion, but you could use the picnic tables.
