Location: Southwest, In/Outdoor: Outdoor Activity level: Varies Features: Dick Nichols is a large neighborhood swimming pool, with separate lanes for lap swimmers and a separate toddler/wading pool. There is no concession stand, but the ice cream truck conveniently comes by during the 5-minute swim breaks every hour. Cost for a family of four: free Best for ages: all | ![]() |
The Experience: The toddler/wading pool is a nice shallow, circular pool off to one side with its own lifeguard. Parents usually end up sitting in the water all around the edges of the circle, relaxing while the children swim or splash in the center. The free admission makes it a very attractive way to cool off during the summer. The clientèle is mostly middle-class families. The pool can get crowded on the weekends, but the large size and the separate wading pool makes it possible for everyone to find space to play. The water gets warm on hot days so those who do not like cold water will like it.
Before you go: Bring sunscreen, water, and some small pool toys. There is very little shade in the pool area, so plan on getting into the water to cool off.How to go cheaper: Not possible.
Birthday Parties: Do it yourself. The table would need to be set up elsewhere in the park.
Accessibility: The pool is equipped with a chair lift device. The steps also include a section with handrails on both sides a few feet apart, which makes it easy for cane or walker users to get down into the pool using handrails.
