The Experience: Culver's is a comforting place. It may be the food, most of seems designed to satisfy even the worst PMS cravings, or it may be the wholesome, almost corny atmosphere, redolent of the restaurants of my small town Midwest childhood. Either way, this is one of the best fast food restaurants around, and definitely a cut above most. The service is fantastic, and has remained as enthusiastic today as when we first went there two years ago. The employees seem to enjoy taking your order at the counter and bringing your food to the table. The menu is wide and varied, including such unusual items as a shrimp dinner, pork tenderloin sandwich, and sides of mashed potatoes and green beans. The ButterBurgers are named for the buttered buns, and are rich but very good. The salads are also delicious, including my favorite, the avocado pecan bleu with blackened chicken. The kids' meals have food good enough that I usually want a taste, although they are a tad pricier than at most places ($4.09 each). They include a hamburger, cheeseburger, grilled cheese, hot dog, or chicken tenders, french fries or applesauce, a drink, and a frozen custard at the end of the meal. If you pay an additional 25 cents, you can get a topping for the custard. There are also various shakes and sundaes made with the custard, which to me tastes just like ice cream, including the flavor of the day posted outside on the marquee.
